And the road to redemption…

During the Academy Awards ceremony (the Oscars), we saw the slap felt around the world. Social Media flooded with commentary from the intense altercation initiated by well-respected actor Will Smith. Emotions ran high, and people were eager to throw their opinions into the arena. Support rose for both parties involved.

The world reeled at the aggressive act taking place on a global stage. Fingers pointed in every direction as people tried to rationalize and justify the shocking event.

I took a different approach. I saw the event as an opportunity to shift our mindset, show compassion, and learn. A chance to discuss what showing up to support ourselves and our family looks like — not by social media standards.

I saw the event as a fuse igniting conversations we need and should have regularly.

I saw the event as an opportunity to look at how we can change ourselves and heal — showing others the way.

“Hurt people hurt people” — Unknown

There is a lot of truth to this quote. Hurt people hurt others. They hurt themselves and their communities. I would go as far to say they hurt generations. Trauma stays with us, and if we are not careful, it is carried to other generations through our thinking and behavior.
